LBI for Cardiovascular Research
The Ludwig-Boltzmann-Institute for Cardiovascular Research focuses on interdisciplinary research of therapies for cardiovascular diseases.
In a longstanding tradition since the late 60ties of the last century, surgeons, physicians, biomedical engineers and chemists, and experimental physicians are closely cooperating in translational research.
We strongly believe that successful biomedical research in cardiovascular medicine needs an integrated and interdisciplinary approach that fosters the translation of scientific discoveries into practical application. It is the clear mission of the LBI for Cardiovascular Research to perform internationally competitive research in this integrated and interdisciplinary manner by focusing on pathophysiology, diagnosis and therapy in the field of cardiovascular medicine.
Current major areas of research include mechanical cardiac assist, the protection of the heart during interventions and transplantation, vascular prostheses, questions of inflammation, revascularization, and diabetes-related cardiovascular diseases.
