Heinz Schima has been elected as Chairman of the International Federation for Artificial Organs (IFAO) for the years 2022-2023. IFAO is linking continental societies (such as ASAIO, ESAO and JSAO) and promoting worldwide cooperation in the research, development and clinical introduction of artificial organs. The focus is on cardiopulmonary assist and replacement, blood purification, diabetes treatment and bioartificial organ support. The next World Congress of IFAO will take place in Bergamo,Italy in Autumn 2023.
