Ludwig Boltzmann Lecture: Prof. Dunja Aksentijevic
On 17 March 2026, Prof Dunja Aksentijevic gave a guest lecture entitled “Rewiring the Failing Heart: Mechano-Energetic Uncoupling in the Era of Multimorbidity”.
In her lecture, she highlighted new findings on the decoupling of mechanical and energetic processes in the failing heart, particularly in the context of multimorbidity. Current research approaches and their potential significance for future therapeutic strategies were discussed.
Dr Aksantijevic is Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology and Metabolism at Queen Mary University of London, a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow and Director of Education at the William Harvey Research Institute, London, UK.
The guest lecture was organised by the Centre for Biomedical Research and Translational Surgery at the Medical University of Vienna in collaboration with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Cardiovascular Research. Bruno Podesser was the host for the event.
