About Prof. Dr. Burkhard Ludewig
Prof. Dr. Burkhard Ludewig graduated in 1992 with a degree in veterinary medicine from the Free University of Berlin and earned his doctorate in 1995 in the same field. After two short postdoctoral positions at the Robert Koch Institute and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he joined the Institute of Experimental Immunology at the University of Zurich. Since 2002, he has been the head of the Medical Research Center at the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen, Switzerland, and since 2021, he has led the Unit for Translational Cardioimmunology at the University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland.
His research focuses on the interaction of stromal cells with innate and adaptive immune cells. His research group has developed preclinical models to investigate stromal cell function and established TCR-transgenic mouse models to study viral infections and autoimmune myocarditis. Prof. Ludewig’s clinical research programs address inflammatory myocardial diseases, lung cancer, and HPV-associated tonsillar carcinomas.
